National Open House Day for Children's and Youth Programs
The Federal Working Group for Open Child and Youth Work (BAG OKJA) is calling on all youth centers, youth clubs, open meeting places, and other facilities involved in open child and youth work to participate in the nationwide “OKJA Day 2026” campaign on Friday, September 25, in the nationwide campaign “OKJA Day 2026.”
On this day, events across Germany highlight the contribution that open child and youth work (OKJA) makes to a diverse and democratic society.
“I’m delighted that our colleagues in Open Child and Youth Work from the Wiesbaden Office of Social Services and many independent youth work organizations are also taking part in this year’s nationwide day of action. I invite all residents of Wiesbaden to come see this important work for themselves,” says Andreas Kowol, Head of the Social Affairs Department.
Especially in times of growing social tensions and anti-democratic tendencies, we need places where young people can experience democracy and help shape it. OKJA offers exactly these spaces—regardless of background, educational status, or life circumstances. Here, children and youth learn to get involved, take on responsibility, and respect other perspectives.
