“filmreif 2026”: Young Filmmakers Present Short Films at the Caligari

On Thursday, September 9, an audience of nearly 300 students, parents, friends, and relatives gathered at the Caligari FilmBühne to watch the new short films created by participants in the “filmreif” project organized by the Wiesbaden Media Center. The focus was on the short films—created by sixteen young filmmakers—based on this year’s theme, “Schräg,” as well as the accompanying “making-of” videos.

Dr. Patricia Becher, the Commissioner for Schools and Culture, welcomed the visitors to the approximately one-hour event at the Caligari FilmBühne. She praised the consistency of the media education concept and the strong network of organizers, while also commending the creativity and courage of the young participants, who took the stage during a subsequent film discussion to answer questions. “You had the courage to develop your own ideas, to stand in front of and behind the camera, and to talk to us right away about your work. That’s anything but a given, and that’s exactly what has made ‘filmreif’ so special for 21 years,” said Dr. Becher.

The short film by the younger age group, titled “Aus dem Takt,” is about Max, who is so inspired by Fabi’s talent on the drums that he is determined to play with the Tornados—even if it means resorting to a little trick. And in “Klick-Klack,” the 12- to 16-year-olds show what happens when a moment of inattention causes the whole world to suddenly go haywire. The productions and behind-the-scenes videos are now available on the Media Center’s YouTube channel.

This year’s productions were created during the Easter and summer breaks in cooperation with the Office for Social Work and wi&you “Schöne Ferien.” As part of the event, the new project website www.medienreif-wi.de from the Wiesbaden Media Center was also unveiled. It will go live on Thursday, October 1, and is intended to promote networking and visibility among young media creators in Wiesbaden.
