Reading with Elena Fischer at the Literaturhaus: “Cast a Shadow”
Mainz-based author Elena Fischer will present her second novel, *Wirf einen Schatten*, on Thursday, September 17, at 7:30 p.m. at the Literaturhaus Villa Clementine, Frankfurter Straße 1. Her debut novel, “Paradise Garden,” was a hit with both readers and critics and was nominated for the German Book Prize.
The author reading begins at 7:30 p.m. and will be moderated by Eva Schmidt. The event is organized by the Literaturhaus Villa Clementine/Wiesbaden Cultural Office as part of Leseland Hessen, with the kind support of the Hessian Ministry of Science and Research, Art and Culture, the Sparkassen Cultural Foundation of Hesse-Thuringia, and hr2-kultur.
“Wirf einen Schatten” takes readers to the rural countryside of the 1960s. After Lis moves to the city with their son, Joseph is left with very little. He has shut himself off from the world and lives only for his work on the farm. On Christmas Eve, he intends to end his life, but an unexpected knock at the door derails his plans. An unknown visitor stands at the door and, at the last second, gives his life a new direction. Like few other contemporary authors, Elena Fischer manages to weave hope into even the saddest of moments.
Advance tickets cost 12 euros, or 9 euros with a discount, plus a booking fee.
