Louise Kennedy Presents Her New Novel, "Red"

Irish author Louise Kennedy will present her new novel, “Red,” on Tuesday, October 6, at 7:30 p.m. at the Literaturhaus Villa Clementine, Frankfurter Straße 1.

Ireland has held the presidency of the Council of the European Union since July of this year. To mark this occasion, the Literaturhaus Villa Clementine, in cooperation with the Consulate General of Ireland in Frankfurt, invites you to a literary journey to the Emerald Isle. Culture journalist and literary critic Antje Deistler will moderate and translate the evening’s program. Actress Anke Sevenich, known from film and television, will read the German passages.

“Red” is Louise Kennedy’s second novel and is set in Ireland in the 1980s. Róisín is 15 years old and feels like an outsider in her small Irish town. But then she meets Red, who is completely different. A tender bond immediately forms between the two teenagers. With precise and powerful language, Kennedy captures the spirit of Irish turmoil and accompanies Róisín and Red down unknown paths, toward a United Kingdom where their youthful dreams are confronted with bitter reality.

Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Tourist Information Office, Marktplatz 1, by calling (0611) 1729930, or online via the Literaturhaus website.
