Miroslav Hlaučo Presents His Acclaimed Debut Novel, “Pentecost”

Miroslav Hlaučo has twice been awarded the Magnesia Literary Prize—the most prestigious Czech literary award—for *Pfingsten*, in the categories “Debut” and “Book of the Year.” As part of the Guest of Honor program at the Frankfurt Book Fair, he will present his novel on Friday, October 2, at the Literaturhaus Villa Clementine, Frankfurter Straße 1.

The reading begins at 7:30 p.m., and Ruben Höppner from Anthea Verlag will host the evening. Yvana von den Driesch will translate the discussion. Actor and voice artist Oliver Wronka will read the German passages. The event is organized by the Literaturhaus Villa Clementine/Wiesbaden Cultural Office and sponsored by Czechia, the Guest of Honor at the 2026 Frankfurt Book Fair. Further information is available at www.wiesbaden.de/literaturhaus.

With “Pfingsten. Memories of the End of the World,” Hlaučo transports readers into a magical world. In a secluded mountain village at the beginning of the last century, people still walk on water, speak with saints, and split rocks in two with a whistle. But modernity is already waiting in the form of sewing machines, until the old wonders are gradually replaced by the new. This sensational novel from the Czech Republic is entertaining and humorous, promising a return to magical realism.

Tickets are available in advance for 12 euros, or 9 euros with a discount, plus a booking fee, at the Wiesbaden Tourist Information Office, Marktplatz 1, phone (0611) 1729930; or online via the Literaturhaus website. At the box office on site, admission costs 15 euros, or 11 euros with a discount.
