Radka Denemarková reads from “Chocolate Blood”
Czech author Radka Denemarková will read from her new novel, *Schokoladenblut*, on Tuesday, October 13, at 7:30 p.m. at the Literaturhaus Villa Clementine, Frankfurter Straße 1. Marita Hübinger will moderate the event.
Radka Denemarková is the only Czech author to have won the Magnesia Literary Prize four times. She has also been inducted into the German Academy for Language and Literature and has received numerous awards in this country as well. She was a guest of honor at the Frankfurt Book Fair.
In *Chocolate Blood*, the author takes readers on a train journey across 19th-century Europe. Together with three historical figures—the writers Božena Němcová and George Sand, as well as oil tycoon John D. Rockefeller—Denemarková explores nationalism, capitalism, and gender equality. She guides the characters along experimental paths, crosses timelines, and picks up speed in a fast-paced prose that Nobel Prize in Literature laureate Olga Tokarczuk has described as a “magic mirror.”
