Visions for Wiesbaden: What Might Wiesbaden Look Like in the Future?

What might a familiar place in Wiesbaden look like if the focus were on more green spaces, public transportation, or accessibility? The new AI tool “Stadtvisionen Wiesbaden” invites visitors to the Zukunftswerk to try out these visions of the future for themselves.

On the interactive touch table, visitors can select images of real locations in Wiesbaden and use AI to reimagine them. Users can set priorities based on various categories: Do I want to create a cool place? Or should public transportation take center stage at this location? Perhaps the focus should be on accessibility instead? Based on these choices, the AI generates a visual representation of how the selected location could be transformed.

The tool is explicitly intended as a visual learning and thought experiment, not as a concrete planning proposal. It stimulates the imagination and invites users to reimagine familiar places. It playfully illustrates how varied conceptions of public space can be and what design requirements come into play. A very green space may be less accessible—where there is room for buses and cars, it is less child-friendly—and vice versa. This highlights just how varied the demands on limited public space in the city are.

This invitation to experiment creates a common starting point for discussions about the complexity of urban design. A tension arises between free imagination and real-world constraints: the tool encourages creative ideas while simultaneously highlighting that real-world changes must take many different factors and constraints into account.

Maral Koohestanian, the department head for digital transformation, explains: “With ‘Stadtvisionen Wiesbaden,’ we can explore how public spaces can be designed to meet different needs: as green and cool places, as play areas, and as places for people to meet. The various future scenarios bring to life how our city could develop and invite people to reflect and help shape the future. We hope that many residents of Wiesbaden will take advantage of this opportunity to participate.”

With this tool, the state capital of Wiesbaden aims to offer citizens a chance to try out AI image editing for themselves while also inviting them to discuss what our city of the future might look like.

The AI tool can be tried out during the Zukunftswerk’s opening hours.
