Epochs of the city's history
Wiesbaden after 1945
After the end of the war, Wiesbaden became the seat of the American military government and, in 1946, the state capital of the newly formed federal state of Hesse.
In addition to the Hessian State Parliament, the city was home to numerous ministries and state offices. At the same time, from the 1950s onwards, federal authorities such as the Federal Criminal Police Office and the Federal Statistical Office also shaped Wiesbaden's appearance as an administrative metropolis. In the following decades, the state capital developed into an attractive trade fair and congress city.
