Roman Wiesbaden and the early Middle Ages
Wiesbaden's hot springs were already very popular in Roman times. The Roman settlement of the Wiesbaden area began here in the 1st century, where soldiers initially sought relaxation.
The civilian settlement "Aquae Mattiacorum" in the area of today's Langgasse was established around 121 A.D. After the Romans left in the 4th century, the area was first populated by Alemanni and later Franks.
