Dacho
The “Dachorganisation Wiesbadener Karneval 1950 e.V.” emerged from a loose association of the eleven carnival clubs that existed in Wiesbaden at the time. Today (as of 2016), the Dacho comprises 38 carnival, guard, and traditional customs clubs from Wiesbaden and the surrounding area. Its main task is organizing the large Wiesbaden Carnival Sunday Parade. Since 1982, there has also been a children’s parade on Carnival Saturday. Membership fees, donations, and public grants—the Dacho has received an annual subsidy from the city since its founding—are not sufficient to cover expenses. Therefore, the Dacho organizes its own events to raise additional funds. These include, for example, the Dacho booths at the Theatrium.
In addition to the parades, Dacho also organizes the indoor carnival celebration at the Wiesbaden Kurhaus. The first session took place as early as February 1951, shortly after the association was founded. Like the parades, the Dacho sessions are among the most important events of Carnival in Wiesbaden. Since 1997, the next generation of carnival enthusiasts has also had a say at the children’s and youth session “Kids in die Bütt” on Carnival Saturday.
