Dürerplatz

Dürerplatz is located at the intersection of Aarstraße and Albrecht-Dürer-Straße between Walkmühlstraße and Lahnstraße. Due to its location, Dürerplatz has always been a traffic junction used by commuters from the Taunus region to reach Wiesbaden.

Even at the beginning of the 20th century, the square, which was then still called Albrecht-Dürer-Platz, was of central importance to Wiesbaden's transport system as a stop for the then streetcar lines 3 and 4 and later the green and blue bus lines. The blue Kuromnibuses made a stopover at Dürerplatz on their way between the spa area and the excursion destinations Fischzucht and Platte. Even before the First World War, it was no longer possible to speak of a green center of the district with extensive sidewalks, as it had been around 1900. In the interwar period and during the Second World War, fairs and folk festivals were held on the then still undeveloped area, as were music and dance events at weekends.

With increasing traffic in the 1950s and the reconstruction of the city, the appearance of Dürerplatz changed. Enlarged streets shaped the square as well as new buildings, among which an office building inaugurated in 1968 stood out in particular.

Today, a dozen bus lines stop at Dürerplatz and connect the north-east of Wiesbaden with the city center, the other districts and the surrounding area.
