Ophthalmologist

born: 16.09.1844 in Bad Schwalbach

died: 11.04.1932 in Wiesbaden

Pagenstecher studied medicine in Würzburg, Berlin, Marburg and Prague and passed the state examination in Wiesbaden after obtaining his doctorate in medicine. In 1870/71, he worked as an assistant in his brother Friedrich Hermann Alexander Pagenstecher's ophthalmology clinic, after which he went to England to study. After his return, he assisted his brother in the management of the ophthalmology clinic from the fall of 1872, which he took over after his brother's death in 1879. He was awarded the title of professor in 1890.

According to his plans, the new hospital was built between 1903 and 1905 on the site between Taunusstrasse and Kapellenstrasse. On the occasion of the inauguration of the new clinic, he was appointed Privy Medical Councillor in 1906. At the beginning of 1909, he handed over its management to his son.
