Reichhard, Eugen Bruno Waldemar (gen. Knoblauch)
Born: 18.06.1915 in Berlin-Steglitz
died: 26.08.1988 in Wiesbaden
Reichhard trained as an opera singer at the Mainz Academy of Music. Apart from a stint at the Aschaffenburg municipal theater, no further engagements are known, probably because he was already consuming garlic excessively at the time.
From then on, Reichhard lived on welfare in Wiesbaden and lived in the Salvation Army's men's hostel. His distinguishing features were cash register glasses, coat, hat, jacket with pocket square and tie. The streets and squares of the city were his stage. Every day he could be found in front of the Tchibo store in Langgasse, philosophizing over a cup of coffee. From the steps of the Hessian State Parliament, he loudly and forcefully proclaimed his messages to passers-by, as well as from the steps in front of the Hessian State Theater in Wiesbaden. His favorite topic remained the positive effects of eating garlic.
At his funeral in the South Cemetery, 400 citizens paid their last respects. In 2009, a memorial to him was unveiled in Kleine Schwalbacher Straße, showing him in a typical pose with a hat, glasses and a cup of coffee in his hands.
