Reisinger, Franz
Journalist, writer
Born: 05.09.1817 in Groß Kurotz (Hungary)
died: 25.01.1866 in Wiesbaden
Born in 1817, Reisinger worked as a gold digger and newspaper editor and took part in the Hungarian independence movement against Habsburg rule in 1848. After the uprising was crushed with the help of Russia, Reisinger went into exile. In 1851, he moved to Wiesbaden.
Around 1855, he became the owner and publisher of the "Mittelrheinische Zeitung", the successor to the "Freie Zeitung", which had been founded on March 3, 1848 and had supported the revolution, which his wife Apollonia, a sister of Adolphus Busch, had acquired before their marriage. Under the aegis of Reisinger, who also edited the paper for a time, the newspaper's political stance changed and from then on it was considered liberal.
Later, Reisinger focused primarily on literature and theater and wrote various plays and comedies. Reisinger was the father of the merchant and founder Hugo Reisinger.
