August Ruf was a farmer in his hometown and honorary mayor from 1895 to 1917. Ruf was also the author of a local chronicle. He wrote this chronicle of around 600 pages covering the period from 1700 to 1945 by hand. Ruf mainly describes the events in Auringen and the German Reich between the First and the end of the Second World War.
By resolution of the municipal council on December 18, 1975, a street was named after August Ruf in the course of Auringen's incorporation into Wiesbaden.
