The Wiesbaden Care Authority is regularly looking for people who are interested in working as independent professional guardians. Professional guardian is not a traditional apprenticeship profession, but knowledge in various areas is essential for the job. In particular, knowledge of guardianship law, basic psychological and psychiatric knowledge, communication skills, knowledge of social welfare support structures, and knowledge of asset management are required. This knowledge is specified in more detail in the Guardianship Organization Act and the Ordinance on the Registration of Professional Guardians (BtRegV). You can also find the relevant information in the information sheet on proof of expertise below. If you have any questions about how to acquire this knowledge or to what extent previous qualifications are recognized, please contact us directly.

With the introduction of the Care Organization Act on January 1, 2023, professional guardians must register with the authority responsible for them (home authority). At the request of the guardian, a decision on registration as a professional guardian is issued as part of an administrative procedure. This is valid nationwide.

The local authority responsible is the one in whose district the applicant has their place of business. For applicants who do not have a place of business for their professional activities, the authority responsible is determined by their place of residence.

All information required for registration is summarized in the information sheet on guardianship from January 1, 2023. You can find much more information and all kinds of interesting facts about legal guardianship on the pages of the Federal Ministry of Justice, the two professional associations, or in the online guardianship law encyclopedia linked below.
