Boules court on the Luisenplatz
On Luisenplatz, two new boules lanes invite people to play, meet and linger together.
Luisenplatz in Wiesbaden has a new attraction: a boules court invites people to play together in the middle of the city center and is set to become a meeting point for encounters and an urban lifestyle. The facility with two lanes is open to all interested parties and can be used free of charge every day from 10 am to 8 pm.
Both citizens in discussions with the city management and the Mitte local advisory council had expressed the desire for a boules court. Support came from the local association "La Pétanque d'Auringen e.V.", which helped to realize the boules facility. Boules is becoming increasingly popular in many cities. The game is uncomplicated, requires no prior knowledge and is suitable for all age groups.
The boules facility is located right next to the Waterloo monument on Luisenplatz. It comprises two courts with a total size of fifteen by four meters. The ground-level edging with natural stone marks the playing area, but also means that the court can be easily built over during events such as the children's star market.
Even if you don't have your own boules balls, you can get started right away: Boules sets can be borrowed free of charge every day between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. via an app using a sports rental box. In addition to the existing benches, up to twelve chairs from the Zuko-Box, a rental service for mobile street furniture, are also available for flexible use - also free of charge and easy to use via app.
Joint project
The project was initiated and coordinated by City Management and implemented together with the Parks Department and in cooperation with the association "La Pétanque d'Auringen e.V." City Management is responsible for the maintenance of the boules facility. All users are responsible for the maintenance and cleanliness of the facility.
The boules facility was funded by the "Sustainable inner cities and centers" (ZIZ) program of the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Building. The aim is to provide new impetus for vibrant city centers with creative, temporary measures.
