Green oasis on the Kochbrunnenplatz

40,000 visits to the climate box

The Climate Box, a temporary, walk-in experience that raises awareness of climate issues and makes heat resilience tangible, was visited around 40,000 times in three months in summer 2025.

Wiesbaden's climate box on Kochbrunnenplatz has attracted a great deal of interest during the hot summer days. Since the end of June, around 40,000 visits have been counted in the green oasis in the middle of the city center. During this time, the climate box has shown how climate adaptation can be experienced in the middle of the city and how the quality of life in the city center can be increased. After the successful premiere, the climate box was dismantled for the cooler season and stored in its winter quarters.

Measuring five by seven meters, the climate box raised citizens' awareness of climate change and climate adaptation measures. At the same time, visitors were able to experience for themselves the refreshing cooling effect of the diverse planting, shade sails and spray mist inside compared to the outside temperatures and use the climate box as a place to relax, meet people and take a deep breath. Children discovered the adventure space with enthusiasm and international guests were also inspired by the innovative project.

In the outdoor area, four information boards invited visitors to gain a deeper understanding of key aspects of climate adaptation. Visitors were also invited to contribute their suggestions and impressions in an accompanying survey.

After the winter break, the Climate Box will be back in Wiesbaden in 2026. Until then, it will remain a successful example of how innovative ideas can improve the quality of life in city centers.

The project was funded as part of the federal program "Sustainable inner cities and centers" (ZIZ). The planting was designed and implemented free of charge by the Wiesbaden Cemetery Gardeners' Association, supported by the Hesse-Thuringia Trust Agency for Permanent Grave Maintenance and the Baden-Württemberg-Hesse Horticultural Association.
