A large Hollywood swing is a new attraction on the playground on the Schulberg and strengthens its special character above the rooftops of Wiesbaden.
The Schulberg has a new attraction: a large Hollywood swing has been installed on the playground, which is important for the neighborhood. The swing offers a special view of the Marktkirche church and the historic roofscape of Wiesbaden's city center from a prominent location.
The Hollywood swing thus creates a special place within the Historic Pentagon with an increased quality of stay, recognition value and close connection to the city center.
The positive experiences with the Hollywood swings on the Dern site, which were started as real-life laboratories, have shown how well such street furniture is accepted by people. The swing on the Schulberg has now provided further impetus, showing how attractive places to spend time can be created with comparatively simple measures - places that invite people to meet, create identity and further develop the quality of a lively city center.
The project was coordinated with the Mitte local advisory council. It was implemented by the Parks Department in cooperation with the city's city management and a specialist landscaping company, which worked with appropriate equipment due to the limited space on the slope. The measure is funded by the federal program "Sustainable inner cities and centers".
Own terrace for solid ground
In contrast to the Hollywood swings on the Dern site, which are embedded in lawns or flowerbeds, a separate terrace was deliberately created for the street furniture on Schulberg. The water-bound surfacing improves the subsoil situation and largely prevents waterlogging and mud formation, even when the area is heavily used, without sacrificing the open, landscaped character of the site.

Schulberg - a place with character and history
The choice of location was challenging due to the size of the swing, high safety requirements and the need for a permanent location. With the Schulberg, a location was found that fulfills these requirements in a special way.
Together with the Loop playground, which is unique in Wiesbaden - the "Loop" consists of a spatial sculpture in which an uninterrupted inner and outer ring is connected by a continuous climbing rope net - the Schulberg forms an urban space with its own character and a high quality of stay.
Due to its elevated position, it is one of the first vantage points over the city center and makes the city's history and present tangible. For centuries and even today, it has been an important transitional space between the old town and the pedestrian zone as well as the higher residential areas in the inner-city open space structure. The impetus for the Hollywood swing on the Schulberg was also the realization competition for the weather protection construction on the Heidenmauer, which also focused on the surroundings of the historic wall.
