Landeshaus

Kaiser-Friedrich-Ring 75

The Landeshaus, built by the architects Friedrich Werz and Paul Huber between 1903 and 1907, to house the Association of Municipalities in the Province of Nassau, was inspired by neo-Baroque palace design. Jugendstil was rejected in advance since the project involved a facility ordered by the Prussian government.

To lend the building prestigious character, the architects selected red sandstone from the Main river basin and planned colossal columns which rise through all the storeys in the middle projection.

This character was further intensified by the architects' inclusion of the wide tympanum and the mansard roof. Nearly 90 years later, in 1990/91, similar building materials were used by the architects Bangert, Jensen, Scholz and Schultes from Berlin in their design for an expansion of the building.
