Just magic

With the group exhibition "Just magic", the frauen museum wiesbaden is showing until June 14 that magic is far more than a magic trick or a mere spectacle. The exhibition understands magic as a quiet, transformative force that shifts familiar perceptions and opens up new perspectives.

Since time immemorial, people have sought to explain, understand, and influence the world through magical thinking. Myths, rituals, and alchemical practices arose from the desire to interpret natural phenomena and reveal hidden forces. These ideas bear witness to a rich imagination and poetic power that continue to shape and inspire our thinking to this day.
The exhibition asks: What happens when we shift our perspective? What happens when we look at the familiar anew and question the familiar? Here, magic appears as a process of transformation—as a process of becoming and passing away, a breaking down of familiar structures, an opening up of new spaces for thought and experience.

The participating artists in the group exhibition JUST MAGIC at the frauen museum wiesbaden approach this understanding of magic from very different perspectives. Their works are characterized by diverse visual languages, experiences, and artistic strategies. Within this polyphony, magic unfolds not as a unified concept but as an open field—yet they always invite us to question our own view of the world and to turn our gaze toward what can unfold between perception and imagination. Featuring works by: Luisa Francia, Riikka Fransila, Rosa Loy, Hedwig Marquardt, Margarete Petersen, Cambra Skadé, and Birgitta Volz.
