Book launch and discussion with Birgit Weyhe and Prof. Dr. Aleida Assmann

Birgit Weyhe will be presenting her new publication "Schweigen" (Silence) at the Kunsthaus on Wednesday, June 11, at 7 pm. Afterwards, Jakob Hoffmann will talk to the author and Professor Dr. Aleida Assmann, the patron of the exhibition "I will not remain silent!" at the Kunsthaus.

The comic author Birgit Weyhe

The graphic novel "Silence" by Birgit Weyhe recalls the fates of two women: One is Ellen Marx, who emigrated to Buenos Aires as a 17-year-old German Jew in 1939 and whose daughter Nora "disappeared" during the Argentinian military dictatorship. The second is the student Elisabeth Käsemann, who was executed in Argentina in 1977 for her political activities.

Afterwards, Jakob Hoffmann, curator of the exhibition "I will not remain silent!" will speak with the author and patron Prof. Dr. Aleida Assmann ("The new unease about the culture of remembrance. An intervention").

The event takes place as part of the exhibition "I will not remain silent. Drawn memory in comics". It is supported by the Kulturfonds Frankfurt RheinMain and Demokratie leben in Wiesbaden. Admission is free.

Exhibition "I will not remain silent"

Until July 13, 2025, the Kunsthaus is presenting for the first time four international, award-winning artists - Hannah Brinkmann, Tobias Dahmen, Nora Krug and Birgit Weyhe - who use the means of graphic storytelling to illuminate history.

A supporting program with readings, lectures, films, (inclusive) guided tours and workshops for school classes accompanies the show. Admission to the events, guided tours and workshops is free of charge.
