Museum Wiesbaden - Exhibitions 2026/2027
From the world's first exhibition of the artists of the Blue Rider from October 23, 2026 to February 21, 2027 on the fascination of poison, the Museum Wiesbaden will be presenting a varied exhibition program in 2026.
Highlight: The Blue Riders
When we look at the pioneers of modernism, it is mostly the names of male artists—August Macke, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Franz Marc, Wassily Kandinsky, or Alexej von Jawlensky—that come to mind.
For the first time, an exhibition on view at the Museum Wiesbaden from October 23, 2026, to February 21, 2027, sheds light on the influence of well-known and lesser-known female artists on modern art, particularly since they were active in the immediate circle of the “Der Blaue Reiter” group. In the fall of 2026, the spotlight will be on the “Blaue Reiterinnen.”
Further exhibitions
The art department's special exhibitions start the year with political posters. In cooperation with the Hessian State Parliament, "Under Pressure" shows posters from 1918 to 1933 from the Maximilian Karagöz collection.
The rediscovery of the Art Nouveau artist Georg Lührig is the subject of the exhibition "A Master from Dresden". Art from the turn of the century is the focus of the retrospective with rarely shown works of Art Nouveau and Symbolism, including Dresden frescoes that were destroyed in the Second World War.
In summer, "Women* & Type Call for Flags" presents the design skills of internationally renowned female typographers and type designers. On the occasion of "World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain", a public flag exhibition will open on Wilhelmstrasse in Wiesbaden, complemented by presentations in the exhibition rooms at the Museum Wiesbaden and in the LUX pavilion at Mainz University of Applied Sciences.
Natural History Collection: "Poison" exhibition
The Natural History Collections are combining nature, culture and science in a variety of ways with the large-scale annual exhibition "Poison" from March 2026. Poisons are fascinating - they kill, heal, warn and protect. Poisons have different functions in nature: They serve to protect against predators, as in the case of tree climbing frogs, or enable prey to be caught, as in the case of cobras. The human use of poisons is also highlighted - from historical and current poison murders to the effect of environmental toxins on humans and nature and the medical use of toxic substances.
In addition, the study exhibition "Brood care - love without words" looks at parental love in the animal kingdom with many examples.
