The residents of the Bergkirchen district in Wiesbaden, mostly craftsmen, workers and day laborers, have called their district "Katzeloch" since 1834. The first written record of the term comes from a carnival speech in 1862.

A strong sense of togetherness was characteristic of this community, which existed for over 85 years and had its own mayor. The association disbanded in 2009 due to a lack of members.

Herbert Kalbitzer, who is named on the stein, had been a member since the association was founded in 1923, which is presumably why he received this stein.
