An evening with J.S. Bach
On Saturday, November 29, you can look forward to an evening of the most beautiful choirs, chorales and arias from all six parts of Johann Sebastian Bach's Christmas Oratorio in the Marktkirche. The concert starts at 7 pm.
"Rejoice, rejoice, praise the days" - Johann Sebastian Bach's Christmas Oratorio begins with these joyful words and has become an integral part of the Christmas season for many of us. Even today - more than 290 years after its first performance at the turn of the year 1734/1735 - Bach's six-part work is one of the most popular and most frequently performed works by the great Baroque composer.
Under the direction of Marktkirchenkantor Thomas J. Frank, the Marktkirchenchor Wiesbaden, the orchestra "Camerata Rhein-Main" as well as Gloria Rehm (soprano), Silvia Hauer (mezzo), Sören Richter (tenor) and Thomas Gropper (bass) will perform a selection of the most beautiful and popular choruses, chorales and arias from all six parts of the Christmas Oratorio. The biblical Christmas story will be read in between. In addition, Thomas J. Frank's own works will be performed.
A musical and contemplative evening in the pre-Christmas period.
