Klangfarben - Start the musical spring with the accordion.

The accordion, with its extraordinary range of sounds, takes center stage at the concert by the Akkordeon Club Wiesbaden (ACW) on Sunday, April 19, starting at 4 p.m. at the Kettelerhaus in Biebrich—Breslauer Straße 1, next to St. Mary’s Church on Rathenauplatz. Doors open at 3:30 p.m., and admission to the concert is free.

The ACW ensemble will open the varied program with several well-known jazz compositions and lively folk dances and songs. Following that, the twelve-piece orchestra will take its audience on a musical journey: from French chanson to Italian hits and lively swing. The program is rounded out by two original compositions for accordion that highlight the instrument’s unique sound.

In some pieces, the association’s own Elektronium—a special accordion-style version of a synthesizer—will expand the musical timbres. It was restored with the help of a grant from the Wiesbaden Cultural Office and the Biebrich Local Council. Refreshments will be served during the intermission, and at the end, the association welcomes donations from everyone who enjoyed the concert.

The ACW is a Biebrich-based music association with a history spanning 42 years. It celebrated its milestone anniversary in May 2024 at Biebrich Castle before a large crowd and an enthusiastic audience. The accordion, a true globetrotter among instruments, was chosen by the German State Music Councils as the “Instrument of the Year 2026.” Rightly so, as the musicians of the ACW believe. “With every movement of its bellows, it breathes music. At times it unfolds the rich sound of an entire orchestra; at others, it is quite delicate and invites you to dream. This impressive range and versatility make the accordion an expressive instrument that has shaped the sound of many cultures internationally,” reads the statement explaining this selection.
