Rhine-Main Dance Festival
From October 30 to November 16, the metropolitan region around the cities of Frankfurt, Darmstadt, Wiesbaden and Offenbach will be dedicated to contemporary dance for a festival that is unique of its kind in Germany: the 10th Rhine-Main Dance Festival.
"Now or Never" - this is the motto under which we are celebrating the tenth anniversary of the Rhine-Main Dance Festival this year. Ten years ago, the management of Künstler*innenhaus Mousonturm, Staatstheater Darmstadt, Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden and Hessisches Staatsballett seized a unique opportunity. They founded the Rhine-Main Dance Festival, which, thanks to its outstanding program and the strong regional roots of its partners, transforms the Rhine-Main metropolitan region into a huge stage for almost two and a half weeks every year, from where the diversity of dance can be experienced in a unique way.
For its anniversary, the festival focuses on the promise of the moment and the fragility of the beginning, on the urgency of action and the search for alternative visions of the future. Many plays in the program deal with risk and borderline experiences, the inevitability of death and the value of individual lives. And they ask how looking into the past, how contact with our ancestors can help us to celebrate commonalities and the joy of living and to connect with forgotten knowledge in a world shaken by crises.
Program
The program of this year's festival consists of a total of 26 stage productions and films, including two world premieres and four German premieres. The foundation of the dance festival is the unique cooperation between Künstler*innenhaus Mousonturm, an international production house, and the Hessian State Ballet, which in turn is based at the state theaters in Wiesbaden and Darmstadt. This year, too, we will expand this cooperation in order to bring dance to venues outside our own venues and thus inspire as many people as possible, regardless of their age and abilities, for this diverse art form.
