Led by Ukrainian-Jewish clarinetist and singer Mitya Gerasimov, this ensemble brings together top-notch musicians from Australia, Sweden, and Germany who were brought together in Berlin by fate and their shared love of klezmer and swing.

But this is about more than just Jewish jazz classics like “Joseph Joseph” or “Bei mir bistu scheyn.” The band’s debut program also features American freylekhs from the 1940s and 1950s, Hasidic nigunim, and Yiddish chansons.

This new Berlin-based band blends Jewish wedding music with the rhythms of 20th-century European and American dance floors. A klezmer hit becomes a jazz standard—and sometimes a foxtrot is barely distinguishable from a freylekh. Their motto is: It must swing!
