In cooperation with the Cultural Office of the City of Wiesbaden, the Jewish Community of Wiesbaden presents an exciting and entertaining program with exhibitions, concerts, guided tours, readings and films.

"Tarbut - Time for Jewish Culture" is coming of age - it is taking place for the 18th time in a row. A number with a special meaning in Hebrew: there, the numerical value of the letters corresponds to the word חי (Chai) - life. The cultural series is intended to help make Jewish life "tangible".

Focus on readings

The opening is traditionally held in Wiesbaden Town Hall as part of an exhibition, which this year bears the title: "Besa - A Code of Honor". On display are portraits by photographer Norman H. Gershman of Muslim families in Albania who saved Jews during the Second World War and thus enabled them to survive.

A special focus this year is on the readings: On November 5, for example, Sara Klatt goes in search of the traces of her grandfather and her own location in Israel. "Where the name lives" is the title of the reading with Ricarda Messner on November 12 at the Literaturhaus Villa Clementine. The author also deals with her family history. The reading with Eldad Stobezki on November 19 promises to be beautiful and humorous as he confronts us with his witty but also thought-provoking observations of everyday life.

In addition, the guided tour of the "Schöne Aussicht" cemetery on October 12 and the Jewish Community Open Day on September 12 at the Wiesbaden Synagogue invite all interested parties to visit.

Musical highlights

The cultural centerpieces are and remain the musical highlights. In September, the Daniel Weltlinger Quartet will perform klezmer, Eastern European folk music, jazz and free improvisation. The Levinsky Duo will play together with Igor Budinstein in November and the Israeli band "LeChaim" will enrich December with international classics and Israeli dance music. Here too, the motto is: LeChaim - "To life".

In particular, you can look forward to an "Iranian-Israeli musical affair" by the group "Sistanagila" in the Kesselhaus am Schlachthof Wiesbaden, where elements of Sephardic and Persian music are skillfully interwoven with klezmer and classical compositions to create a complete work. Where, if not here, can culture bring together what supposedly does not belong together? To put it bluntly: "Völkerverbindung at it's best".

Due to the extensive renovation work at the Caligari FilmBühne, there will unfortunately be no film screenings there this year. The film "A Real Pain" will be shown at the Murnau-Filmtheater at the end of September.
