The aim of the funding program is to bring the citizens of Wiesbaden into exchange and encounter through art and culture. Intercultural art projects are an important part of the cultural diversity of our city.
Intercultural art projects demonstrate the power of art as a means of understanding and inclusion. They show that cultural diversity is a source of inspiration and that artistic collaboration can build bridges between different communities.
They bring together artists and audiences from different cultural backgrounds and enable creative encounters that open up new perspectives and strengthen social cohesion.
The application deadline for 2026 is April 12. Projects can now be submitted via the link below on the Fundgarden online platform.
The projects are funded by the Cultural Affairs Office and the Office for Immigration and Integration. The funding program is managed by the Integration Department of the Office for Immigration and Integration, the Social Services and Job Center, and the Coordination Office for Cultural Education and Participation of the Cultural Affairs Office. In 2025, the funds were fully utilized.
Need inspiration for a project idea? A list of the projects funded in 2025 can be found at the bottom of the page under "Documents." The detailed funding criteria for this program are also available for download there.
Applications can be submitted by migrant organizations, associations, artists, cultural workers and other institutions. Individuals can also submit applications.
Which projects can be submitted?
The projects should bring together artists and audiences from different cultural backgrounds and use art to promote exchange. The aim is to open up new perspectives and strengthen social cohesion. Projects can address issues such as migration, identity, discrimination and cultural heritage and provide platforms for marginalized voices. Intercultural art projects can take on various forms of expression, including visual art, music, theater, literature, dance or multimedia installations. Mixed forms are also conceivable. In addition, scholarships, training courses or similarly structured frameworks relating to the topic of intercultural openness can also be covered by the funding.
A key feature of such projects is collaboration. Artists work together with communities, social initiatives or educational institutions to create works that go beyond artistic aesthetics and have a social impact. These projects are often participatory, i.e. they actively involve the audience and encourage reflection on social issues. The programme supports art and cultural projects in which refugees and/or migrants were already involved in the concept development or projects that explicitly incorporate the wishes and needs of the people. When selecting projects, particular emphasis is therefore placed on the participation of the above-mentioned groups, the visualization of the cultures of origin and exchange. In addition to the focus on the artistic quality of the project, contacts should be facilitated.
What project durations and formats are possible?
Short, medium or long-term projects can be funded, such as one-off events, a workshop, project weeks, multi-day campaigns and long-term ideas that last for more than a year.
Is there an application deadline?
The application deadline for projects starting in 2026 is April 12, 2026. If not all funds are spent in this funding round, we will consider whether we can issue a new call for proposals for 2026. The funding program will be reissued subject to the city's budget decisions for 2027.
