The services
What services are available?
Lunch catering
Who receives this benefit?
The costs of lunchtime meals can be covered for pupils under the age of 25 who attend a general or vocational school and do not receive a training allowance, as well as for children in daycare centers. The age limit does not apply to pupils who receive benefits in accordance with SGB XII or AsylbLG.
What benefit is provided?
The costs of a hot lunch at school or daycare center are covered.
It should be noted that meals that can be bought at a kiosk, such as sandwiches, are not included in the benefit.
How does it work?
You provide us with the necessary information on the BuT form and enclose your contract with the provider. A payment is made to the lunch provider. You will receive a corresponding approval notice.
Excursions and trips
Who receives this benefit?
The costs of one-day excursions and trips lasting several days can be covered for pupils under the age of 25 who attend a general or vocational school and do not receive a training allowance, as well as for children in daycare centers. The age limit does not apply to pupils who receive benefits in accordance with SGB XII or AsylbLG.
What benefit is provided?
The costs of all one-day school and daycare excursions as well as daycare and class trips lasting several days (within the framework of school regulations) that take place during the period for which the social benefit is granted or are due during this period are covered.
Pocket money or costs for personal needs such as sports shoes or swimwear are not covered.
How does it work?
You provide us with a confirmation from the school or daycare center about the type, duration, destination and costs of the excursion/school trip and the bank details. The costs are paid directly to the school/daycare center or directly to you if you provide a receipt.
Tutoring and learning support
Who receives this benefit?
The costs of learning support can be covered for pupils under the age of 25 who attend a general or vocational school and do not receive a training allowance. The age limit does not apply to pupils who receive benefits in accordance with SGB XII or AsylbLG.
What benefit is provided?
In individual cases, extracurricular learning support can be used to supplement the support services organized by schools and school-related providers (e.g. support associations). These services, which are usually free of charge, should be given priority. Only if the achievement of a sufficient level of performance in a subject is at risk and an improvement can only be achieved with the help of extracurricular learning support can this service be considered.
How does it work?
When you apply, you will receive a form on which the teacher confirms the need for learning support and enters the amount of additional learning support required. In addition, a cost estimate from the provider must be submitted. The costs will be settled directly with the provider. You will receive a corresponding approval notice.
Contributions for activities
Who receives this benefit?
Children and young people under the age of 18 can receive additional benefits for culture, sport and leisure.
What benefit is provided?
This benefit is intended to enable children and young people to integrate into club and community structures and establish contact with their peers. To this end, each child or young person is entitled to a lump sum of 15 euros per month, for example for
Membership fees in clubs (e.g. soccer club),
lessons in artistic subjects and comparable guided cultural education activities (e.g. music lessons) or
participation in camps (e.g. scouts, theater camps, confirmation camps).
Expenses for associated equipment may also be eligible for a specific purpose following an assessment.
How does this work?
You submit a confirmation from the provider. The costs are usually paid directly to the provider and any remaining amounts are made available to you as a cash benefit. It is also possible to "save" the monthly contribution for a maximum total of 12 months.
School supplies
Who receives this benefit?
Pupils under the age of 25 who attend a general or vocational school and do not receive a training allowance receive the lump sum for school supplies. The age limit does not apply to pupils who receive benefits in accordance with SGB XII or AsylbLG.
What benefits are provided?
In addition to a school bag and sportswear, personal school supplies also include writing, arithmetic and drawing materials (e.g. fountain pens, compasses, triangle), but not consumables (e.g. pencils, cartridges, etc.). These are to be paid for from the standard monthly requirement.
Twice a year, at the beginning of a school semester, a sum of money is paid for this: EUR 100 at the beginning of the first semester and EUR 50 at the beginning of the second semester. Beyond this, no further need for school materials can be claimed as part of education and participation. From 2021, the amount of school supplies will generally be adjusted at the beginning of each year.
How does this work?
Anyone who already receives basic security benefits for jobseekers, assistance with living expenses or benefits under the AsylbLG will automatically receive this benefit for their children aged 7 to 15 if the above-mentioned requirements are met. For younger and older pupils, a school certificate must be submitted either to the relevant benefits office or to the Education and Participation Office.
Recipients of housing benefit and/or child supplement must apply for the benefits.
School transportation
Who receives this benefit?
The costs of school transport can be covered for pupils under the age of 25 who attend a general or vocational school and do not receive a training allowance. The age limit does not apply to pupils who receive benefits in accordance with SGB XII or AsylbLG.
What benefit is provided?
As the costs for the monthly ticket up to the 9th or 10th grade (depending on the type of school) are usually reimbursed by third parties (e.g. the municipal education authority), the costs for school transport, usually the Hesse student ticket, can usually be taken into account from the 10th or 11th grade.
The prerequisite is that the nearest school of the course or profile can only be reached by public transport, i.e. neither on foot nor by bike, due to the distance (at least 3 kilometers).
How does this work?
You submit a school certificate and proof of the amount of travel costs. A BuT form will help you to provide the necessary information. The school transport costs will be paid to you as a cash benefit.
