Biebrich book rally

On a book hunt through Biebrich - the FLY preschool children's book rally

Where can you find books in Biebrich - to buy, swap or borrow? The preschool children from the Goethe School's FLY project got to the bottom of this exciting question together with their parents on Tuesday, April 29, 2025. Equipped with a "treasure map", they made their way through three special stations that were all about reading:

At the Prista bookshop, the children searched for a special first reader series with an animal as the main character - and of course they found it. In the Biebrich City Library, they had to discover a FLY bookmark and recognize the animal on the cover of the first reading book. At the "Bücher Boje" open bookcase on the Robert-Krekel-Anlage, the children swapped the books they had brought with them for new reading treasures - or simply took a book if they didn't have one with them. Many parents were surprised: the bookcase is always open to anyone who wants to swap or give away books! The enthusiasm was great - among children and parents alike. Together they discovered how many great places there are in Biebrich where books are easily accessible and encourage a love of reading.

The FLY project (Family Literacy) is a family education program run by the Goethe School in collaboration with the Galatea-Anlage, Nachbarschaftshaus, Oranier-Gedächtnis-Kirche and Toni-Sender-Haus daycare centres. The aim of the project is to prepare pre-school children and their families for the start of school in a playful and creative way - and to convey the importance of reading for children's education.

The FLY events take place every year in the pre-school year and are organized in close cooperation with the Prista bookshop, the Hessian State Theatre Wiesbaden, the Biebrich municipal library and the Biebrich Mitte district management.

An all-round successful day full of stories, discoveries and shared experiences - and a living example of how reading promotion can succeed in our district.
