Read more with book boxes
In many districts, artists have worked with children to design and install book boxes. So that books are easier to find.
The colorful and cheerful bookcases and book boxes have been designed by children together with artists over several years as part of the municipal holiday program "Schöne Ferien" (Happy Holidays). There are now 11 of them scattered throughout the city.
The principle is simple: you put books in a cabinet and take others with you. Of course, you can also just borrow or exchange books. Use is free of charge.
Local sponsors take care of the boxes. Sometimes they are private individuals, sometimes they are groups of children from neighboring institutions. The maintenance and regular filling of the boxes with children's books is coordinated by the Youth Work Department of the Office for Social Work.
The book boxes also offer many opportunities to provide children with targeted literature and language or languages.
