Outlook for the 2026/27 season

And once the season ends, it’s time to start planning for the new one: The VCW, led by sports director Frank and general manager Fetting, is already planning for the upcoming season. They’ve already found a new coach. The new head coach at VCW will be Pauls Sens, the longtime assistant coach at SSC Schwerin. He has signed a three-year contract in Wiesbaden. In addition, several players are staying on: Libero Rene Sain (28, Croatia), the two setters Sanne Konijnenberg (21, Netherlands) and Hanna Weinmann (19), as well as outside hitter Cayetana López Rey (20, Spain) have all committed to the new season. A new and powerful team is now set to be built around these four players. In addition, the club pulled off a spectacular comeback: Middle blocker Rachel Gomez (USA), who left at the end of the 2024–2025 season after three years, will strengthen the VCW roster for the 2026–2027 season. The season kicks off on October 11 against USC Münster.

New addition to the outside attack

The VCW has announced another exciting new addition to its outside hitter lineup for the 2026/27 season in the Women’s Volleyball Bundesliga. Julia Murmann, an athlete from Canada, will be on the court for the Hessian team when they kick off their season on October 11 against USC Münster. The 23-year-old is transferring to the VCW from Tenaglia Abruzzo Altino Volley in Italy.

Blocker Roos Wessels is coming

VC Wiesbaden's middle blockers are forming a solid defensive wall. In the upcoming 2026/2027 season of the Women’s 1st Volleyball Bundesliga, Roos Wessels will join comeback player and veteran Rachel Gomez (USA; 30) in donning the blue jersey. The 20-year-old is transferring from Dutch national champion Apollo 8 to the Hessian state capital.

Diagonal talent from Ukraine at the VCW

The VCW has announced a new addition to the opposite hitter position: Starting with the upcoming 2026/2027 season of the Women’s Volleyball Bundesliga, Marharyta Geiko will become the first Ukrainian athlete to play for the Hessian professional team. The 20-year-old most recently played a standout role for the Swiss team NLZ Volleyball Academy.

Out after play-off quarter-final against Suhl

The 2025–2026 season of the Women’s Volleyball Bundesliga 1 has now come to an end for the VCW. Following their 1–3 loss in Suhl, the Wiesbaden team suffered a decisive 0–3 defeat at home in the playoff quarterfinal second leg and had to acknowledge the superiority of VfB Suhl Lotto Thüringen. As expected, the quarterfinals were the end of the road for the VCW. In the 0-3 loss (14-25, 21-25, and 13-25), interim coach Benedikt Frank’s team was unable to build on their performance from the first leg. But in front of their home fans, the VCW had no chance this time—especially in the first and third sets. 1,158 spectators bid farewell to their VCW athletes as they headed into the off-season, while the Suhl team celebrated their advancement to the semifinals of the German Championship with their fans. At VCW, everyone is now taking a break for the time being, before planning for the new season begins shortly, which will then start in the fall. After all, they were eliminated by Suhl, who went on to become the German champions.
