Wiesbaden Biodiversity Weeks 2026

A series of events filled with experiences, encounters, and a commitment to biodiversity.

The third Wiesbaden Biodiversity Weeks (WieWoBiodiv) took place from May 18 to June 14, 2026. During this period, the state capital of Wiesbaden, together with a total of 34 associations, initiatives, organizations, and dedicated individuals, invited the public to discover nature right on their own doorstep and to learn about new places, species, and topics.

A wide variety of topics and a broad range of formats characterized WieWoBiodiv. Whether online from home, outdoors on a field trip, or indoors at a lecture—there were numerous opportunities for people of all ages to participate. The content ranged from school gardens to meadows, forests, and bodies of water, covering a wide variety of habitats and many different living creatures. Topics such as agroforestry, orchard meadows, active environmental protection, and nature-oriented garden design were also part of the program.

A total of 63 events made up a varied program.

Among the special highlights were:

  • Winner of the 2026 Environmental Award: Tour of the “Artengarten Wiesbaden Komponistenviertel” Wildlife Gardening Project
  •  Meadow Event with a Whole Team of Experts: HLNUG Meadow Excursion
  • Practical Tips for Gardens and Balconies: Frauenstein Nature Garden and Webinars on Balcony Gardening
  • Opening up previously inaccessible biotopes: Delkenheim gravel pit, former Kalkofen quarry, ELW landfill site
  •  Take a closer look and rediscover the everyday: Herb shows and the “City Full of Life” exhibition
  •  Children explore nature-related topics critically and artistically: tiny little friends

A great response and enthusiastic participants

The diversity of the participants was also particularly encouraging. In addition to numerous “regulars” who attended several events, many residents were able to discover their surroundings in a new light. One participant set a record by attending a total of 17 events. She even took time off work specifically for this.

A survey conducted by the Environmental Agency regarding the WieWoBiodiv events yielded consistently positive results. 95% of respondents rated both the content and the organization of the events they attended as good or very good. All respondents indicated that they would like to participate again next year.

It was extremely interesting, led by a very knowledgeable guide, inspiring, and helped raise awareness of the beauty of nature.
