Climate station
The regular recording of the weather has a tradition of over 150 years in Wiesbaden, which is also of great importance today in the context of climate observations in the urban environment.
Municipal climate station "Wiesbaden-Süd"
Regular weather recording has a tradition in Wiesbaden dating back over 150 years, and today it remains of great importance for climate monitoring, even in urban areas.
The "Wiesbaden-Süd" climate station is operated under the direction of the Environmental Agency. The
following values are measured here:
- Temperature, including daily minimum and daily maximum
- Temperature near the ground
- Relative humidity
- Precipitation
- Wind direction
- Wind speed and duration of sunshine.
All data is transmitted to the German Weather Service and is thus incorporated into the data series of the German Weather Observation Network. Long-term developments and trends in the form of climate series and climate analyses are of particular interest here. Since September 2012, measurement results have been recorded electronically. To this end, the weather station was completely renovated in the summer of 2012.
After being relocated several times, the station is now located on Balthasar-Neumann-Straße, near a former nursery.
