Animal world
The survey identified animal species with an acute degree of endangerment according to the Red Lists as well as some "regionally noteworthy" species. These are not necessarily protected, but are rare for the Wiesbaden city area or have been identified for the first time in a long time. In the report, a brief profile was written for all special animal species with information on their protection status, the locations where they were found and the data from other mapping surveys. This provides a quick overview of the special features.
The animals were each recorded for a study area, as they are not generally tied to a specific biotope type. The six animal species groups selected are birds, reptiles, amphibians, butterflies, grasshoppers and dragonflies. On average, six random inspections were carried out per area within a vegetation period.
The orchards in particular, especially those with extensive meadow use, still have a characteristic fauna for the most part. However, small structures such as sunny forest and roadsides as well as the edges of the vineyards are also of great importance, especially for reptile fauna. The few small bodies of water are often important spawning grounds for amphibians. Due to the great diversity of landscape structures, there is also a good supply of special animal species outside the nature reserves in the Wiesbaden urban area.
