Energy transition - Join in now! Between blackout myths and generating your own electricity - what citizens can do
The 18th Sustainability Dialogue with Dr. Andreas Schmitz, alias "Akkudoktor", Lord Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende, Mayor Christiane Hinninger and Ralf Cohrs (ESWE) will take place on November 13 at 6 pm in the Bürgersaal of the Fresenius University of Applied Sciences, Moritzstraße 17a. The event will be streamed live on the internet.
The focus will be on the question of how the energy transition can be taken into our own hands - and what hurdles actually exist. The discussion will be moderated by journalist Claudia Deeg.
"Blackouts and dark doldrums have long been part of the energy transition narrative in many media. Science and constructive solutions are being deliberately discredited by disinformation campaigns," energy expert Dr. Andreas Schmitz is certain. But which concerns are actually justified and which are myths? And above all: what can citizens do in concrete terms to generate their own energy and even save a little?
The lecture by Dr. Andreas Schmitz, known on YouTube as the "battery doctor", provides well-founded answers that are relevant to everyday life. As an introduction, Schmitz dispels common myths about the energy transition. He then clearly explains what is behind the term "grid-supportive charging" and why this plays a key role in the energy transition.
However, the focus of the lecture is on the question: What can I do as a citizen? Using typical everyday situations, Schmitz shows how sustainable behavior is not only possible, but can also make economic sense. He looks at two different living situations:
Homes with home storage, heat pumps or electric cars and smart meters:
How do dynamic electricity tariffs work in conjunction with home storage, wallboxes and smart controls? For whom is it worthwhile - and where should caution be exercised?
Rental apartments without their own roof space:
What role can balcony power plants, home storage systems and dynamic feed-in tariffs play in enabling tenants to actively participate in the energy transition? Even without a photovoltaic system.
The presentation offers practical tips for both target groups and shows concrete options for taking part in the energy transition yourself and at low cost.
