Competition: Celebrating and organizing sustainably
The "Celebrate and organize sustainably" prize is being awarded for the first time and is endowed with prize money totalling 3,500 euros. You have until April 30, 2026 to apply with your event.
Festivals and events promote individual relationships and networks, strengthen cultural identities, preserve traditions, and can boost the economy. If these festivals are organized in a sustainable manner, they also make an important contribution to environmental and climate protection in our city. In addition, they offer the potential to raise awareness of ecological and social issues.
Many event organizers are already opting for a sustainable event concept. The state capital recognizes this commitment with the award for sustainable celebrations and events.
At the same time, the public competition highlights role models and encourages others to follow suit.
The competition will be held for the first time in 2025. Events that have taken place by March 31, 2026, are eligible for submission.
Who can apply?
Associations, institutions, schools, kindergartens, companies, and private individuals who have held a festival or event in Wiesbaden during the application period from January 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026, are eligible to apply. This includes club celebrations, conferences, and trade fairs, as well as company, school, neighborhood, or church community celebrations, private parties, sporting events, or similar events.
Projects with which you can apply for the "Sustainable celebrations and events" award are characterized by
- their careful use of resources, for example through climate-friendly mobility options, waste avoidance, sustainable catering, measures to save energy and water
- an innovative approach to organizing or planning a sustainable event
- their potential to sensitize people to sustainable action
- their role model character
How do I apply?
You can submit your application directly via this website. Enter your personal details and upload the completed checklist, including the required supporting documents. The checklist asks for all environmentally relevant and sustainable measures for your celebration or event.
Who evaluates the applications?
The evaluation is carried out by a jury made up of the following members:
- the Lord Mayor (chairperson)
- the head of the environment department
- the head of the Environmental Agency
- the Chairperson of the Environment Committee
- the head of the events office
What is there to win?
The "Celebrate and organize sustainably" prize is awarded annually and is endowed with prize money in the following scale:
- Prize: 2,000 euros
- 1st prize: 1,000 euros
- Prize: 500 euros
The award is presented at a public event by the Lord Mayor of the City of Wiesbaden and/or the Head of the Environment Department.
