Food for thought

Until October 31, the Umweltladen is focusing on a topic that affects us all: our clothes. "Stoff zum Nachdenken" takes a look at the hidden production conditions and the consequences of (ultra) fast fashion, accompanied by clothes swaps, readings, style advice and an upcycling day.

Exhibition in the Umweltladen "Food for thought"

Poster entitled 'Food for thought' about sustainability in the closet, showing two drawn people and a large pile of colorful clothes.
Poster of the exhibition

Clothing is more than just fabric - it warms, decorates and says a lot about our personality. But what do we know about their origin? Where and under what conditions are our T-shirts, pants or jackets produced? How can we distinguish between guaranteed environmental standards and greenwashing? And what do we do with discarded clothing?

The exhibition provides answers - in a clear and solution-oriented way. It shows how we can make more conscious choices when shopping, wear clothes for longer and look after them properly. Tips on repairing, swapping and passing on make you want to break new ground - for more sustainability in your closet.

Swapping instead of buying

Why buy new when you can swap? As part of the exhibition, the environmental advice service invites you to take part in regular clothes swap events.
Each campaign has its own focus:

  • Until July 25: Outdoor and sports clothing
  • From July 28: women's clothing
  • From August 25: Men's clothing
  • from September 29: handicraft utensils - i.e. everything you need to make, repair and spice up your clothes.

Simply bring along items in good condition and find new favorites.

The accompanying program

  • August 25, 6 p.m.: Reading "In Zukunft anders. Impulses for a fair and grandchild-friendly economy" with Jürgen Drieschmanns
  • 1 September, 5.30 p.m. to 8 p.m.: "Favorite pieces instead of bad buys - style and color advice"
Tickets for the consultation are available for 10 euros at the Umweltladen.
  • September 20, 12 to 3 p.m.: Upcycling day with screen printing and visible mending
With visible mending, holes or tears are deliberately made visible and creatively repaired.
With screen printing, prepared motifs can be printed onto items of clothing that you bring with you.
Please bring your own items of clothing for printing and upcycling.
  • October 24, 6 to 7.30 p.m.: Reading with Armin Nufer
