Environmental tip May: Cycling in Wiesbaden - Get on your bike!

Cities with good cycling infrastructure are often quieter, cleaner and enable fast mobility. In Wiesbaden, too, many journeys can be made comfortably by bike - especially over shorter distances.

Environmental tip May 2025: Cyclists in front of the town hall

Wiesbaden may not yet be a distinct cycling city, but that can change. Anyone who gets on their bike more often today not only keeps moving and relieves traffic congestion, but also makes a contribution to climate protection. Step by step, Wiesbaden is becoming a more environmentally friendly and pleasant city for everyone.

Get on your bike and experience the many positive changes for cyclists in Wiesbaden in recent years, such as the environmental lane, new cycle paths and parking facilities. There are also attractive offers that motivate you to get on your bike.
We have put together a selection for you:

Smart City theme week "fahrRAD"

The "fahrRAD" theme week will take place from May 12 to 16, 2025. It offers exciting lectures, creative workshops and inspiring activities around the question: How can the bicycle become a central component of the mobility transition in Wiesbaden? The program is aimed at everyone who gets around on two wheels and would like to do so much more often.

The theme week takes place at the Zukunftswerk, LuisenForum Wiesbaden, and is free of charge. Registration is required for selected program items.

City cycling

The CITY CYCLING campaign is all about having fun cycling and winning great prizes. However, the main aim is to motivate as many people as possible to switch to bicycles in their everyday lives and thus make a contribution to climate protection. It doesn't matter whether you cycle rarely or regularly, whether you are an experienced wind and weather cyclist or a cycling novice. Taking part is everything. Simply join a team or form one yourself. It doesn't matter how many kilometers you end up cycling during the campaign period from 25 May to 14 June 2025 - the main thing is that lots of people take part!

Kidical Mass - The children's bicycle parade

At the children's bicycle parade, the youngest road users and their parents can cycle comfortably and safely through Wiesbaden's streets for an hour. The destination is always a play area in Wiesbaden's city center. There is often a surprise for the cyclists.

The dates for 2025 are Sunday, June 15 and Sunday, September 21. The start is always at 15:00 at the Dern'schen site. The routes and also feeder routes to the starting point will be published on the website about a week before the start.

Hire cargo bikes

Cargo bikes are a practical means of transportation in the city centre for transporting children or heavy shopping. If you use them, you can get from door to door quickly and without pollutants, promote sustainable and climate-friendly mobility and also do something for your own health. If you don't want to buy your own cargo bike, there are three providers in Wiesbaden that rent out cargo bikes.

The ADFC Wiesbaden operates the Lilja platform, where cargo bikes can be rented free of charge. Bookings can be made for up to two consecutive days after registering on the website.

Cargo bikes are also available from the bicycle workshop "Der Radler" at the main railway station. Requests can be made by email.

The company Sigo operates several stations where cargo bikes can be rented spontaneously and by the hour. The rental works via an app at the charging stations.

Rent bikes

If you don't yet have your own bike or want to hire bikes for your visit, there are also various options:

E-bikes, trekking bikes and mountain bikes can be hired from the "Der Radler" bicycle workshop at the main station. The request is made by e-mail.
E-bikes from the company Nextbike can be rented via an app. There are particularly favorable conditions for students. The first hour is free for them.
In addition to e-scooters, e-bikes can be rented throughout the city via Bolt using the app.
The Deutsche Bahn Call a Bike rental app can also be used in Wiesbaden. The pick-up and return station is at the main train station.

Paying with pedals - the DB-Rad+ app

What if you could not only change the world a bit by cycling, but also buy yourself a coffee? DB Rad+ makes this possible. With it, you collect your own bike kilometers and can exchange them for discounts at selected partners. For example, admission to the Wiesbaden Museum for 60 kilometers.

Additional benefit: all kilometers cycled go into a large pot. And whenever a certain kilometer mark is reached, the city and its partners do something for the cycling community. 9The 9th milestone at 2 million kilometers is already being planned!

Offers from the General German Bicycle Club (ADFC)

The ADFC offers cyclists not only information about cycling, but also many useful services. The cycling club offers guided tours for those who like to travel in groups. If you feel like pedaling in sync, you can hire the ADFC tandem. Panniers from ORTLIEB are also available for hire, either individually or as a pair. For all adults who are not yet able to ride a bike or are not yet confident, the ADFC offers cycling courses on site on various occasions.

Bicycle station "the cyclist"

In addition to bike care, repair, maintenance and inspection, the cyclist also offers bike coding and guided bike tours. It also rents out bicycles, e-bikes and cargo bikes.

Anyone who does not know what to do with their discarded bike can also contact "der Radler". The donated bikes receive a thorough inspection and repair and are sold on at a reasonable price. The bikes can also be collected from your home.

In cooperation with the Umweltladen, "Der Radler" offers bicycle repair workshops for beginners and advanced riders. Information and participation cards are available at the Umweltladen, Luisenstraße 19.

"Der Radler" is a non-profit project of BauHaus Werkstätten Wiesbaden (BWW) with the aim of qualifying and employing unemployed young people and adults and supporting their integration into the world of work. It also aims to enable groups of people on lower incomes to repair their bicycles or buy a cheap bike.
