Winning projects Environmental Award 2018-2026

From the 24 projects that applied for the 2026 Environmental Award, the jury selected three winning projects with different focuses.

The participating projects clearly demonstrated how creative, dedicated, and solution-oriented many people in our city are. They combine nature conservation and climate protection with education, community, and responsible business practices.

1st prize: ArtenGarten Komponistenviertel Wiesbaden

The “ArtenGarten Wiesbaden Komponistenviertel” project promotes biodiversity by redesigning garden spaces to be more natural. Garden owners remove ecologically problematic, non-native ornamental plants and replace them with native species that bloom year-round. The introduction of structurally rich elements creates habitats and food sources for animals, such as the Aesculapian snake. Within a short time, numerous new animal, plant, and fungal species have settled in—some of which are protected species on the Red List. By collecting rainwater and using recycled materials, the project also contributes to climate and resource conservation.

2nd prize: Thinking with your hands - the workbench as a creative place of learning and sustainability in the daycare center

The St. Andreas Daycare Center has set up a child-friendly workbench where staff and children can work together to repair, spruce up, and creatively repurpose furniture and play equipment. This allows existing items to be used for longer, rather than buying new ones. This conserves resources, prevents waste, and reduces CO₂ emissions. The children learn in a hands-on way how to use materials sustainably and develop an awareness of the environment and resources.

sustainable clothing from Eve & Olive

3rd prize: Closing the Loop: EVE + OLIVE develops baby clothes in a circular system

EVE + OLIVE designs sustainable baby clothing made from innovative cellulose fibers, specifically the eco-friendly material Tencel™ Lyocell. Production takes place using a resource-efficient, closed-loop process that conserves water and energy. A distinctive feature of the collection is its thoughtful design: The clothing is made from a single material, is exceptionally durable, and, thanks to smart cuts, grows with the child across multiple sizes.
