Resting at "Main kilometer 0.0"
The Rhine and Main meet at kilometer 0.0 on the Main. This makes this place unique. The rest area on the Maaraue is being redesigned to make recreation and information even more attractive.
A special place at the confluence of the Rhine and Main rivers
At the Maaraue in Kostheim lies the Main kilometer 0.0, where the Main flows into the Rhine after 527 kilometers. This place is very special because the two rivers Rhine and Main, which give the metropolitan region its name, meet here.
There is already a beautifully situated rest area with benches and tables at this point, although they are in poor condition. The rest area invites you to take a break under the trees and enjoy the view. Many regional and national cycle routes, such as the Leinpfad regional park route, pass by here. The confluence of the two rivers is marked by the Main kilometer marker "0.0" and boards provide information about the course of the Main.
Current planning
The planned redesign will take up the special character of the rest area and carefully develop it further. New benches and tables and seating steps by the water will enhance the area in future. An information board will provide interesting facts about the Main and its navigation
The idea for the project came about as part of the Rhein.Main.Ufer concept. Thanks to funding from the RhineMain Regional Park, it was possible to draw up a design plan. Citizens had the opportunity to contribute their wishes in the fall of 2022. The plans are to be implemented in the coming years.
