Using land responsibly - for sustainable urban development
Land is a limited resource - and at the same time the basis for living, working, nature, climate and quality of life in the city.
Against the backdrop of growing demands on land use, demographic change, and the challenges of climate protection, the conscious and sustainable management of land is becoming increasingly important.
With its integrated land management concept, the City of Wiesbaden is creating a key tool for steering urban land development in a transparent and forward-looking manner.
The concept was developed in close collaboration between the City Planning Office and the Environmental Protection Agency. The goal is to permanently reduce land consumption and improve its quality.
It is based on the land-saving targets of the State of Hesse and the federal government. These targets aim to significantly limit land consumption and, in the long term, avoid the use of new land. The land management concept translates these goals into concrete control mechanisms and practical assessment tools.
The focus is not only on how much new land is used, but also on how it is used. Important land functions are to be preserved, inner-city development potential strengthened, and multifunctional areas protected.
In this way, the land management concept supports the city in responsibly seizing development opportunities, using land sustainably, and safeguarding the land as a valuable foundation for life for current and future generations.
