Schelmengraben barbecue area
The barbecue area in the green space on Friedrich-Engels-Weg in Schelmengraben was extensively renovated and redesigned by the green space department of the state capital of Wiesbaden as part of the "Schelmengraben social cohesion" urban development program.
The aim was to create an attractive meeting place for families, young people and the entire neighborhood. The total cost of the construction project amounted to around 122,000 euros.
During the redesign, permanently installed barbecue areas, seating areas with tables, and a shelter for young people were set up to significantly improve comfort and the quality of the space. In addition, a calisthenics facility and a basketball court were installed, making the area more versatile.
The participation of local residents was taken into account during the planning process. As part of a participatory process, citizens, especially young people, were able to actively contribute their wishes and ideas. This allowed the redesign to be optimally adapted to the needs of the residents.
The second construction phase involved the redesign of the adjacent slope. A new path was created, which serves as a practical shortcut between the dinosaur playground and the barbecue area. This connection links the two areas directly and makes the leisure area even more attractive and inviting.
Since its completion in 2019, the barbecue area has become a lively meeting place in the neighborhood that is enjoyed by many people.
