What? Wiesbaden thrives on its clubs—but how is this club culture changing in an era when volunteer work is often becoming more project-based, flexible, and non-binding? Many clubs make significant contributions to culture, sports, education, social services, integration, neighborhood development, and democratic cohesion. At the same time, they face challenges: recruiting new members, bureaucracy, digitization, visibility, communication, and the question of how to inspire people today to make a long-term commitment. The presentation uses Wiesbaden’s club landscape as a starting point to reflect on the future of volunteer work. The focus is on what makes associations strong, where they come under pressure, and how they can further develop their role as places of participation, responsibility, and community. Following the presentation, the event invites participants to join a discussion on practical experiences, new forms of participation, and how Wiesbaden’s clubs can remain sustainable for the future.
Who? Prof. Dr. Dr. Alexander Moutchnik teaches media economics and media management at RheinMain University of Applied Sciences and is active in several of the city’s associations; among other roles, he serves as chairman of the non-profit associations in Wiesbaden.Wiki e.V. and WortForm e.V., as well as a board member of the Wiesbaden Press Club e.V.
