Media offers for young people

Whether it’s smartphones, social media, gaming, or artificial intelligence—media offer many opportunities, but they also raise questions. The city’s children’s, youth, and neighborhood centers offer a variety of media education programs where young people can get actively involved.

Digital media are a natural part of young people’s everyday lives. Media education in open child and youth work helps young people navigate the digital world with confidence, a critical eye, and creativity.

This gives them the opportunity to contribute their own ideas and suggest workshops or projects. These are planned and carried out together with the staff at the youth centers—tailored to the interests and lived experiences of the young people.

Whether producing their own podcasts, recording video or audio interviews, creating stop-motion films, taking photos and making short films, producing digital music, or participating in the new “Teamwork Gaming” project starting in 2027—these activities foster creativity, teamwork, and a mindful approach to media. The focus is not only on the technology itself, but above all on hands-on experimentation, active participation, and reflection.

Media education in open children’s and youth work thus makes an important contribution to supporting young people in an increasingly digital world. In this way, children’s, youth, and community centers become places where young people can not only consume digital media but also understand, question, and creatively shape it—guided by professionals who support and empower them on their journey through a digital society.
