Municipal Heat Planning: Target Scenario
Municipal heat planning helps identify which climate-friendly heating options are particularly suitable for the various city districts. The map provides an initial overview and is regularly updated to reflect current developments.
Area for decentralized heating: Heat is generated directly in the home:
Building a local or district heating network is generally not economically viable here, as the distances between the buildings are too great. Instead, individual heating systems are usually the best solution. In many cases, this will be a heat pump. Other solutions, such as a wood pellet heating system or a gas heating system fueled by biogas, are also possible.
District heating area: heat is supplied directly
In this area, a connection to district heating is planned or highly likely in the long term. The heat is generated centrally and transported to the buildings via a pipeline network. The district heating network operator ensures that the heat will be generated in a climate-neutral manner by 2045. District heating is also suitable for historic, protected buildings, as it provides high flow temperatures and does not require additional outdoor equipment. To find out if and when a connection is possible for your building, please contact our network operator, ESWE Versorgung (opens in a new tab).
Test Area: Many Paths Lead to the Goal
At this point, the Municipal Heat Planning initiative cannot yet provide a clear recommendation on which heating option is most suitable. Connecting to district heating or a smaller local heating network, as well as installing a heat pump, must be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. A wood pellet heating system or a gas heating system using biogas may also be viable options.
