On the road in the ... Mountain church quarter

The Bergkirchenviertel is a real trendy district with small bars, restaurants and individual stores. The people of Wiesbaden love to hang out in Nerostrasse in particular. Thomas Schachler from the wine bar nero22 tells us what makes it so special.

The nero22 in the evening

Quellgeflüster: What does Nerostrasse mean to you?
Thomas: Nerostrasse is a very special place - a unique neighborhood where everyone knows everyone else. Many friendly people live and work here and in the surrounding area, who treat each other with respect, talk to each other and look out for each other. There are small owner-managed stores, cafés, restaurants, organic wine bars, crafts, art, galleries, retail, agencies, architects, fashion, bicycles, beauty and wellness ... And it is now much, much more liveable thanks to the implementation of Wiesbaden's first traffic-calmed shopping street. Thanks to the committed people in the initiative for a liveable Nerostrasse!

Quellgeflüster: Who meets at your place?
Thomas: My wife Sabine with her pottery and gallery Ile22 next door and the wine bar nero22 are special places together - her workshop and my living room. Young and slightly older people meet here, so everyone - people from all over the world. Nice people. People who live in the wider area or who have discovered us at some point and love to come back. A warm place to feel at home.

Quellgeflüster: What connects you to the Staatstheater?
Thomas: I went to the Staatstheater regularly as a child and there have always been artists, musicians and creative people in my family. Today, I am above all a fan of the Hessian State Ballet (opens in a new tab). I am very close to many of the ensemble's dancers. Every year - twice in June - they transform the sidewalk in front of nero22 into a stage and delight my guests and friends with modern ballet art.

Quellgeflüster: What are your tips for the Bergkirchenviertel?
Thomas: My personal highlights for Nerostraße are Dale's Cake with its beautiful backyard, delicious soups for lunch and such nice people. Drinking coffee at The Friday Cupping Room and Kaufmanns. And feeling like you're in southern Italy at De Paola, Luigi and his super friendly team.

Quellgeflüster: And where do you like to go out?
Thomas: Karim's Brasserie and Butta La Pasta, Café Maldaner and Mazzuko Gelateria are places where I feel very comfortable!
