Rapid intervention by the fire department prevents fire from spreading to residential building
At around 4 p.m. today, the Wiesbaden fire department was alerted to a garage fire in Pfandlochweg in the Mainz-Kostheim district. A clear smoke development was already visible from afar on the approach.
The first responders from the Kostheim volunteer fire department arrived at the scene and discovered that the fire had already spread to the surrounding vegetation and an attached shed and was threatening to spread to the adjoining residential building. The firefighters immediately started fighting the fire and intensified their efforts after the arrival of the professional fire department by using additional nozzles. The adjacent residential building was also checked by the fire department and two dogs were brought to safety.
The fire was limited to the rear part of the garage and the nearby residential building was protected by the extensive interior and exterior firefighting attack from two sides of the building. No people or animals were injured by the fire. The operation was completed after around two hours.
The Wiesbaden fire department deployed firefighters from fire stations 1 and 2 as well as the Mainz-Kostheim volunteer fire department. An ambulance from the Wiesbaden rescue service was on standby to provide assistance during the extinguishing work. Investigations into the cause of the fire were undertaken by the police, who were also present.
